Together the NRP and the NIMS provide a nationwide framework for working cooperatively to prevent or respond to threats and incidents regardless of cause, size, or complexity. The course is designed for DHS and other Federal department/agency staff responsible for implementing the NRP, as well as State, local and private sector emergency management professionals

IS 800a has been incorporated into the exam questions and the Quick Reference Guide is current (May 22, 2006 version 4.0). Specific changes to the NRP document are located in optional readings.

Mass Decontamination
The Rapid Response System (RRS) relies on the immediate initiation of decontamination by local first responders, who are supported by a phased decontamination response that provides the local jurisdiction with the ability to access, decontaminate, and treat exposed persons, including those who cannot extricate themselves or be safely extricated.

The RRS also provides for a decontamination capability at hospital facilities that may receive patients from the local emergency medical service or by self-transportation. Depending on your background, this course will take from 2-4 hours to complete.

Course Catalog
Homeland Security Institute courses are approved by the Department of Homeland Security, Office of Domestic Preparedness (ODP).

We appreciate your willingness to prepare us to respond to the very real threat we face. The courses are user-friendly, take 2-5 hours to complete each course (which can be broken into any increments you choose –you do not have to complete the course(s) in one sitting), you are issued a completion certificate automatically and entered into the completion database.

HSI is committed to delivering training in a number of ways. Initial efforts are being made to impact trainees across the emergency response disciplines. Standardized training has been introduced in state training nodes such as the Fire Training Academy, the Criminal Justice Training Center, and the State Patrol Academy. Community and technical colleges in homeland security-related fields will begin taking the online courses as part of their curriculum next year.

These state-recommended courses will help you work closely with professionals from all eleven emergency responder disciplines. We have emphasized online training as the only viable way of reaching many of the 200,000+ responders in Washington State. We also consider it an important potential tool for delivering awareness courses directly to the public, should the need arise. The courses can be used to supplement classroom instruction or as stand alones.
